Judicial reform in the Slovak Republic: Supreme Administrative Court

The Supreme Administrative Court, created by Minister of Justice Mária Kolíková as part of the judicial reform, was formally established on the basis of an amendment to the Constitution of the Slovak Republic and Act No. 423/2020 Coll. on amendments to certain acts in connection with the reform of the judiciary.

Following the example of the Czech Supreme Administrative Court, the Slovak judiciary has also gained a similar institution. The Supreme Administrative Court (hereinafter also referred to as "SAC"), created by Minister of Justice Mária Kolíková as part of the judicial reform, was formally established on the basis of an amendment to the Constitution of the Slovak Republic (hereinafter referred to as the "Constitution") by Constitutional Act No. 422/2020 Coll. and on the basis of Act No. 423/2020 Coll. on amendments to certain acts in connection with the reform of the judiciary. In practice, the NSS should start operating in August 2021. Based on the hierarchy of courts in the Slovak Republic, the NSS will be equivalent to the Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic (hereinafter referred to as the "Supreme Court") and will take over the area of administrative justice from it.
