New rules for registering civic associations: What will the amendment bring from September 2025?
A significant amendment to the law on civic associations will come into effect on September 1, 2025. The newly adopted Act No. 140/2025 Z. z. brings fundamental changes to the registration of civic associations – from the transfer of powers from the Ministry of the Interior to district offices in the regional capital to new regulations on local jurisdiction.
From 1 September 2025, a significant amendment to the Law on Citizens' Associations comes into force. The newly adopted Act No. 140/2025 Coll. brings fundamental changes in the registration of civic associations - from the transfer of competences from the Ministry of Interior to the district offices in the seat of the region, to the new regulation of local jurisdiction. The main objective of this amendment is to streamline the performance of state administration in the field of registration of non-governmental non-profit organisations, to bring this service closer to citizens through registration according to the seat of the association and at the same time to speed up the processing of applications.
